FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Geography and Environmental Science ( http://www.geo.hunter.cuny.edu/ ) at Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for a position at the rank of Doctoral Lecturer in earth science. This is a full-time appointment beginning August 2023 with a renewable contract and eligibility for a Certificate of Continuous Service.
Located on the 68 th Street campus on the upper east side of Manhattan, the diverse faculty of the Geography and Environmental Science Department at Hunter works closely with students and each other in an open and collegial atmosphere. Responsibilities associated with this position fall within the purview of Hunter College’s teaching mission.
The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive teaching experience across the Earth Sciences and a commitment to student success. The Doctoral Lecturer will be expected to teach, design curricula, and oversee graduate teaching assistants and adjuncts in multiple core undergraduate environmental science courses. These efforts will target the fundamental Earth Science offerings within the department as well as survey courses for the broader Hunter College community that include introductory classes in geology, oceanography, and environmental science. Applicants with teaching and research interests in the merging fields of urban climate, urban ecology and environmental data science are encouraged to apply. The Doctoral Lecturer will be expected to keep abreast of the latest advancements in geosciences and offer course instruction informed by cutting-edge research.
Responsibilities: Faculty duties include teaching an equivalent of up to eight courses at the undergraduate level per academic year, conducted in traditional, blended and online teaching modalities. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Department Chairperson, such as:

Coordinating and liaising with student tutoring services

The Department of Geography and Environmental Science prioritizes mentoring of students through capstone experiences and independent research initiatives. The Doctoral Lecturer will be encouraged by the department to support student engagement beyond the traditional classroom setting and recruit under-represented populations to the earth sciences.
QUALIFICATIONS
Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule): Perspective applicants must have a PhD in one of the fundamental earth and planetary science disciplines (Geology, Oceanography, Atmospheric Science or Physical Geography) and be able to demonstrate a record of exemplary teaching, experience developing curricula and successful mentoring of students. Candidates must be proficient with in-person and virtual instruction formats and will be required to teach a representative class as part of the interview process.
VACCINE REQUIREMENT
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
COMPENSATION
Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. ($56,821 - $98,309)
