Congratulations to Jisun Reiner, one of our outstanding students (Class of 2022, Macaulay Honors Environmental Studies and Sociology), who has been offered a Summer Student Fellowship at the prestigious Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) for the summer 2021. Jisun will be working on an independent research project with advisors from the WHOI Marine Policy department from June to August, and then share her research at the end of the summer. She plans to create a research project that combines physical oceanography with aspects of social science. Possible topics that Jisun may explore include the resilience of coastal communities as sea levels rise, the conditions of Marine Protected Areas under climate change, or the health of estuaries and their impact on coastal cities’ water systems. In addition to conducting independent research, fellows will attend seminars and events to integrate them in the WHOI community and expose them to all aspects of marine science. Although the fellowship will be conducted online, there will be a trip to Woods Hole, Massachusetts, built into the program.
