If you are passionate about protecting the Earth and finding ways out of climate emergency or appreciate the interconnectedness between people and landscapes, you will find geography an attractive interdisciplinary field and a meaningful career. Demand for expertise in geography will increase within the next 5-15 years as we search for environmentally and socially sustainable ways of being on this planet. Our graduates also acquire qualitative, quantitative, and geospatial skills. Graduates work successfully in nonprofit organizations, government, private business, research, emergency and crisis management, and education. The National Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that geographers in government positions, not including the postal service, earned in 2021 a median salary of $93,640.
