2025 Cohen Prize in Geographic Excellence
Graduate Award Winner
We are proud to announce Rock Miller as the recipient of the 2025 Cohen Prize in Geographic Excellence, awarded annually to an outstanding graduate student in geography or a related field.
Rock comes to Hunter after a long career has that embraced transportation planning, engineering, journalism and technology. Like others, he was drawn to geography out of a fascination with maps, but has stayed for the geospatial technology that enables curiosity and exploration of all kinds of interesting problems. He is excited to apply this knowledge to his particular interest, which is the study, writing, and teaching of history. Rock holds a history degree from Carleton College, and a masters degree in urban planning from New York University’s Wagner School. Midwestern-raised, he has been a New Yorker since 1989. He lives in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, is married, and has two grown children.
