Read Chapters 4, 5, and 6 from Gleason, G. 1997. The Central Asian States: Discovering Independence. Boulder, Colorado: Westview Press.

 

Write a short essay (2-3 pages double spaced, 12 point font) answering one of the following questions:

 

  1. Which of the Central Asian republics has most authoritarian rule and which is most democratic?
  2. Which of the Central Asian republics has natural resources that could best support its economy after independence and how?

3 points maximum points for each essay, 6 points total toward your final grade.
