BACKGROUND
In October 2011, Hunter College completed the installation of a solar photovoltaic system on Hunter North to generate on-site renewable electricity and to serve as an educational resource for Hunter College students, faculty and staff. This project was initiated by Hunter Solar Project, a student organization founded in 2008 to encourage the use of solar energy by Hunter College. The project was subsequently made possible with the generous support of the Office of the President of Hunter College, the City University of New York, and the Hunter College Department of Geography. From 2008-2009 the coalition raised the funds necessary to install the solar energy system on campus, and in 2009 Hunter Solar Project was awarded an additional grant through the Clinton Global Initiative to pilot a Solar Tour Program for Hunter College students.
