Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Ahearn received his Ph.D. in environmental monitoring in 1986 from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.S. in 1982 from the same institution.
He received a B.S. in 1978 from the College of Environmental Science and
Forestry-Syracuse University. He was an Assistant Professor at the University
of Minnesota from 1986-1990 in the College of Natural Resources. He has
worked with GIS for over fifteen years on a diversity of environmentally
related projects and has published numerous articles on both GIS and remote
sensing. He teaches both introductory and advanced courses in remote sensing
and GIS. His interests include environmental monitioring, cartographic
modeling, computer vision and digital image analysis. Some of the recent
projects that Professor Ahearn has been involved in are the Implementation
and Placement of a GIS-Bases Environmental Monitoring System in Greenpoint/Williamsburg
section of Brooklyn; Technology Transfer and System Development of the
DEP Natural Resource GIS for NYC; A Temporal Analysis of Crop Production
in the ASA Region of Kwara, Nigeria using Satellite Remote Sensing; and
Development of a Digital Cartographic Base Map For the State of New York.
