ESSAY REQUIREMENTS: SOCIAL IMPACTS OF GIS
- Short essay (for graduate students) should discuss at least three articles that engage the issues of social impacts of GIS technologies. Articles can be chosen from the list of suggested readings). At least one article should be from the suggested list. At least one must be from this list while the other might be in addition to this list (in this case please provide a copy of the article). All articles must address the impacts of GIS technology on social practices. Your essay should also draw on the textbook overview of the related issues. If time permits, graduate students will present the content of the article to the class.
Writing requirements (strictly followed):
Size: 12 points font, double spaced, 5 pages maximum.
References: Make sure that you include all references both in text and in the end of the essay. If you restate author's point, include reference to page number on which this point is discussed by the author (author, year, page number). If you use a direct quote, do not forget quotation marks and again include the page number on which this quote can be found. If your references are not properly specified, you will loose 3 points. In case of plagiarism, you will loose all points.
Writing style: Your essay has to be written in standard English and checked for spelling and grammar. If these requirements are not met, you will loose 3 points. If you need help with proof reading your essay, contact student services for help.
