Projections
based on a cylinder
Cylindrical
projections produce maps with straight, evenly-spaced meridians and straight
parallels that intersect meridians at right angles.
Cylindrical projections are created
by wrapping a cylinder around a globe and projecting a light source through the
globe onto the cylinder. The cylinder is then cut along a line of longitude and
laid flat.
