Sustainable Cities
The NYC and its surrounding metropolitan area are not only a center of technological and economic growth in the country, but also a champion in finding sustainable solutions to the growing demand for energy and water resources. Our research sheds light on the underlying drivers and issues affecting prevalence of bottled water use in New York City.
The City University of New York, through its Sustainable CUNY initiative seeks among others to address NYC, state and federal sustainability goals that require the adoption of renewable energy, energy efficiency practices, innovations in clean technology and behavioral changes.
Our research fits well into objectives of the Sustainable CUNY initiative by exploring the underlying questions about bottled water and fountain water use in NYC. In addition to the water quality issues, sustainability concerns arising from plastic water bottles require effective policy mandates that are based on research outcomes.
