Dr. Laxmi Ramasubramanian

CUNY and San Jose State University

Dr. Laxmi Ramasubramanian is a nationally recognized expert in participatory planning and citizen science approaches. She also serves as the Director of the Urban Sustainability Extension Service and the Deputy Director of the Institute for Sustainable Cities at Hunter College. In this project, Dr. Ramasubramanian co-manages the research design and the data collection process across the city, working with Dr. Bulley and Dr. Vollman.

Through her engagement with the CUNY Institute for Sustainable Cities, she is also connected to a number of non-profit and community-based organizations who are interested in the general issue of drinking water quality in NYC, especially in rental apartment buildings and other situations where the water quality concerns cannot be directly addressed by an individual. Dr. Ramasubramanian is also be involved in the analysis and visualization of neighborhood socio-demographic data using GIS.

As of fall 2019, Dr. Ramasubramanian has moved to San Jose State University to serve there as chair of the urban planning department. She will now conduct a parallel study with students at SJSU.
