Computational Geography
Dr. Albrecht is a professor for computational and theoretical geography at Hunter College and at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
Dr. Albrecht has been teaching at CUNY for over 15 years, prior to which he worked at the universities of Auckland (NZ)), Wisconsin, and Maryland. He is the author of two books (with a 3rd due to be published this year) and over 50 other peer-reviewd publications. He supervised some 30 masters and five PhD theses.
Dr. Albrecht's current research deals with finding ways to advise policy makers about the most effective regionaly varying measures to combat global greenhouse gas emissions. He also collects and analyzes best practices of GIS program management for a wide range of different sized and resourced organizationss. This work is foundational to the development of a national effort for the certification of GIS managers and the accreditation of GIS programs. A third line of research investigates open source foundations of spatial decision support systems, such as the ones used for emergency management and hazard mitigation.
