The American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) is adjusting to the changes occurring throughout the industry by taking a leadership position in student activities. By reaching out to you, ASPRS is taking the first step toward building a system to reward students for active participation.
You are our link to students who should be members of ASPRS. We want to help them maximize their career options within the remote sensing and photogrammetry industry, or spread the application of the technology to other industries. At the same time, ASPRS is building a structure to address the needs of the academic community into the future.
There are three ways you can help:
nominate a prodigious student or faculty member to play an active role on the Student Activities Committee,
encourage student membership at the local and national level, and
share your unique perspective with other ASPRS members.
Nominate a Student for Our National Committee
Imagine the joy of offering an outstanding student the opportunity to network with the tops of the remote sensing field, to steer the direction of a national society of remote sensing professionals, and earn the recognition of the followers of the field. You are the one who will be remembered as the person who gave your student a door into professional life. In addition, he or she can work with you to promote the benefits of professional society membership at your school, potentially leading to greater recognition for their accomplishments and capabilities.
ASPRS is attracting the top students across the nation and offering them the golden opportunity of participating in the Student Activities Committee. If you have students, who are ready to seize this opportunity with energy, and fulfill the appropriate responsibilities of Student Activities Committee membership, have them contact the ASPRS office.
Encourage All Students
At the same time, you are in a position to serve a vital role by encouraging all students to become ASPRS members. Many innovations are being developed that will revolutionize the way a wide variety of individuals and institutions perform their work. Your students need to be in touch with the cutting edge of this wave, and carry it into new territory.
Besides national membership, the local leadership of ASPRS regionals are looking for students to rev up the excitement level of their events. Offering students direct benefits in the form of exposure to career development opportunities in your own backyard, as well as across the nation, can be a key role for ASPRS, and you.
Share Your Point of View
Finally, I would like to extend an offer to you personally. You have a unique perspective that you may want to share with others. ASPRS is building communication links that will permit you, as a member, to share ideas with others. The goal is to identify opportunities, implement viable alternatives and test the results. Whatever your interest, someone is out there with whom you can refine knowledge of the remote sensing, photogrammetry, and the GIS industry and its growing applications.
By helping to build a thriving professional society, the ultimate goal is for all members to directly benefit from the collaborations of individuals, pursuing their desires using their collective strengths.
