Alfisols

 

Relatively high natural fertility.

Moderately leached.

Mainly formed under forest and have a subsurface horizon in which clays have accumulated.

Found mainly in temperate humid and sub-humid regions of the world.

Are very important in agriculture and silviculture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Central Missouri Alfisol

 

Uses include the growing of:

  • corn
  • soybeans
  • sorghum

These soils are commonly saturated in winter and spring.

This variation of the Alfisol formed in loess parent material with 15-60% clay content.

Relatively fertile soils.

Clay subsoil causes these soils to become saturated in winter and spring.

Artificial drainage make these soils good for agriculture.
