About the Exams:
The Mid-term Exam will cover Chapters 1-6 inclusive and consist of 50 multiple-choice questions. The last 10 questions will be map questions that will test your knowledge of the locations of the countries of the Americas (North/South/Central/Caribbean) and Europe. Unless otherwise specified, you are responsible for everything covered in class plus the assigned textbook chapters.
The Final Exam will cover Chapter 7-12 inclusive and consist of 50 multiple-choice questions. The last 10 questions will be map questions that test your knowledge of the locations of countries NOT covered by the Mid-term Exam. Unless otherwise specified, you are responsible for everything covered in class plus the assigned textbook chapters.
What if I miss the mid-term exam? I will not give a make-up Mid-term Exam. Instead, if you miss the Mid-term, then you will take a single, Cumulative Final Exam that will count for both tests. That exam will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions, including 10 map questions. For the map portion of the exam, you will be responsible for knowing the locations of all the world's countries. Unless otherwise specified, you will be responsible for everything covered in class plus the assigned textbook chapters.
May I use a [foreign-language]-English dictionary during an exam? On the advice of the Dean of Students Office, such dictionaries are not allowed for use during an exam. If you are not familiar with a particular word or phrase, then please raise your hand.
What's the best way to study for the exams? Given the exams' multiple-choice formats, it will be best to concentrate on concepts and vocabulary. I suggest you compile a comprehensive list of words and terms that includes items emphasized in class and highlighted in your text.
Do you give a review sheet? No. I encourage you to come to class, take notes, and compile the vocabulary list mentioned above. The result should be an excellend review sheet of your own making.
Do you give a review session before the exams? Yes. It will be scheduled on a Wednesday during Dean's Hours (1:10 - 3 PM) at a place to be announced.
Is there anything I can do for extra credit? Yes! On many class days I will give an extra credit question, the answer to which is due at our next class session BEFORE I start lecturing. Therefore, to take advantage of this offer you will need to attend class and be on time. Each correct answer will add one-third of a point to your final grade.
