User Home Directory Information Last updated by Tom Walter on 01/28/2005 All users have a home directory located on the Department's Unix file server called Moon. When you log onto a PC in the Department, a Unix program called Samba allows the Windows operating system on the PC to talk to the Unix operating system on Moon and links the user's home directory on Moon to the U: drive on the PC. This should be done automatically when you log onto your account on any PC in the Department. It is a complicated feat for Samba to get the two different operating systems, Unix and Windows 2000/XP, to talk to each other. Problems sometimes occur. If your U: drive doesn't automatically map, you can do it manually following the instructions found on the SPARS web site (click here for instructions on manually mapping a drive). If you receive error messages, contact the Department's Windows systems administrator via email to geohelp@geo.hunter.cuny.edu or visit him in his office in room 1003C. |
